Collins' status remains shaky

As Giants GM Ernie Accorsi dodged question after question regarding the upcoming draft, he did throw his full support behind incumbent QB Kerry Collins – sort of.

"We have a quarterback that took us to a Super Bowl and I think can win a Super Bowl for us," Accorsi said. "I have not lost any confidence in Kerry."

The problem is that the quarterback has only one year left on his contract – for $7 million – and the Giants have not gone out of their way to firm up a new deal for Collins.

"How many quarterbacks did the Packers take with (Brett) Favre?" he asked. "You have to do what's best for the organization."

Accorsi said he wasn't concerned that all the recent talk would hinder Collins in any way.

"He's playing the toughest position in the game, psychologically, if not in all of sports," Accorsi said. "It's not like he's facing a third-and-15 in a championship game."

Despite what happens come draft day, Accorsi said he believes Collins' future will be in the Big Apple.

"I think he wants to stay here and we'd like to keep him," he said.
