He was an impact player in his three years at Hampton, and was regarded as one of the quickest pass rushers in the collegiate ranks, boasting a 4.49 time in the 40-yard dash. He's known as an excellent athlete that gets off the snap quickly.
"Isaac Hilton's just a speed pass rusher," GM Ernie Accorsi said. "He'll give us pressure."
The 6-3, 251-pound Hilton started 32 of 39 games and recorded 205 tackles and 24 sacks in his Hampton career. He also added 69 stops for losses, 27 QB pressures, eight pass break-ups, four fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles, a blocked field goal and a blocked extra point.
* After the Draft Accorsi stated that the Giants were focused on signing a middle linebacker and a return specialist among the rookie free agents. Both were needs the Giants were unable to address during the draft.
Ourlads' on Hilton:
A dominant player at a lower level. A slightly undersized right end with relatively short arms. Sturdy. Has solid legs, a muscular upper body and good arm strength. Explosive athlete with outstanding speed. Quick off the ball. Takes on blocks and holds his ground fairly well, but he plays a little high at times and sometimes stops his feet while battling. Strong into gaps – disruptive penetrator. A little out of control and off balance at times. Inconsistent in pursuit – can flash to the ball but is not always all-out. Not real instinctive – can get fooled finding the ball. Promising pass rusher with a fine combination of power and speed. Pressures the edge well. Strong with his hands to jar blockers and work inside. Shows spin ability. Good leaper. Explosive in his close. Somewhat of a straightliner. More fast than agile – isn't fluid turning the corner. Comes hard but needs to get lower against blocks on the outside. An intriguing prospect with the speed, athletic ability and strength to excite – still rough around the edges.
