Shockey's foot broken? TE's status up in air

Tom Coughlin grew weary of the media's questions about his star tight end and the possibility of foot surgery in Jeremy Shockey's future. Following Monday morning's practice, Coughlin angrily stated that he'd explain the Shockey situation "for the fifth time."

The rumors that Shockey has a stress fracture in his right foot have grown stronger, leading many to believe that New York's Pro Bowl tight end may have to go under the knife. Foot surgery would likely sideline Shockey until the beginning of the season, at the earliest.

"What has been seen on the X-ray is what they call a 'hot spot,' " Coughlin surprisingly admitted. "We're just trying to figure out where we are. He's going to get a second opinion. We're fortunate that it's June."

Coughlin said that Shockey has done everything the club has asked of him since being sidelined last week with what the Giants termed a "sore foot."

"Everyone knows what kind of special talent he is," Kurt Warner said. "There's no question everyone wants that guy in the huddle."

Shockey was MIA during Monday's morning workout. Coughlin stated that Shockey's flight was cancelled and that he was going to return later on Monday. "He's late," Coughlin stated. "I believe he had a wedding for a relative. The flight he was supposed to be on was cancelled."
