Hand injures back

Defensive tackle Norman Hand was carted off the field during the morning practice session.

"Norman Hand was going through a drill and made kind of a violent rip move and just strained the muscle in his back," Giants coach Tom Coughlin explained. "So they want to make sure there is no rib involved or anything like that. He was in some spasms, muscle spasms today. They felt like they had to do something right away and take a look at it."

* The Giants veteran offseason program concludes tomorrow with an Organized Team Activity day. Then the veterans are free until camp kicks off July 29. The rookies have one more week of strength and conditioning and meetings until they are set free.

Coughlin was asked what he wanted his troops to do during their extended vacation.

"Conditioning. Preparing themselves mentally for camp – knowing full well what the start of training camp is," he said. "Spend time with their families, enjoy their time off, don't lose sight of the progress that a bunch of guys have made in terms of their overall strength and reduction in body fat, the reduction of body weight. I want that to all be maintained. I think most of them have learned how to do that, and will continue to do that.

"But basically, enjoy yourself; spend time with your family – no surprises. Everybody stay healthy and stay in one piece and let's prepare ourselves. Each day, as it gets a little bit closer, let's spend a little more time thinking about the objectives ahead and the season ahead."
