Cloud, 5-10, 204, last year led the Super Bowl champion Patriots with a career-high five rushing touchdowns, despite playing in only five games. He scored two touchdowns against Tennessee on Oct. 5 and two at Indianapolis on Nov. 30. After that performance, Cloud was inactive for the final seven games of the season, including three in the postseason. He finished the season with 118 yards on 27 carries.

Cloud was released by New England on Friday.

Cloud's career totals are 499 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 148 carries, plus 12 receptions for 97 yards. He also has a 21.2-yard average on 48 kickoff returns.

Cloud entered the NFL as a second-round draft choice by Kansas City in 1999, the 53rd overall selection. His most productive season for the Chiefs was his rookie year, when he rushed for 128 yards and caught three passes. The following year, Cloud played in all 16 games with four starts.

After four seasons with the Chiefs, Cloud signed with New England as a free agent.
