Thomas, 6-3 and 214, was in the Jets' training camp as a rookie free agent this summer. He was waived on August 28. At the University of Virginia, Thomas played in 49 games. He started at cornerback for three seasons before switching to wide receiver as a senior. He finished his career with 84 tackles, one interception and three fumble recoveries (including one he returned 92 yards for a touchdown). He played at Cumberland Valley High School in Pennsylvania.

Pears, 6-7 and 323 pounds, played in all 10 games with four starts for the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe this spring. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins on May 1, 2003 and was released on Aug. 23, 2003. Pears was on the Steelers' practice squad from Sept. 30 to Oct. 28 and again for the final week of the season last year. The Steelers signed him to their active roster on Dec. 31. He was waived on Aug. 27.

Pears started 35 of 45 games at Colorado State, including his final 26 at left guard. He attended Kennedy High School in Denver.

Guard Tyson Clabo and defensive back Will Hunter were released from the practice squad.
