Giants send five packing

The Giants made five roster moves on Tuesday: releasing safety Omar Stoutmire, cornerback Terry Cousin, defensive end Lorenzo Bromell and defensive tackle Martin Chase; running back Antwoine Womack was waived.

Stoutmire, who was signed by the Giants as a free agent on August 30, 2000, was placed on injured reserve last season on September 15th after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the Giants' season-opener in Philadelphia. Prior to last season, he had not missed a game due to injury in his career. Stoutmire appeared in 65 games with 32 starts at free safety in five seasons with the Giants. In 2003, he finished third on the team in tackles with a career-high 109. Stoutmire finished second on the team in special teams tackles with 15 in 2001.

He began his NFL career in Dallas in 1997 and then played one season with the New York Jets in 1999 before joining the Giants.

Cousin, a nine-year veteran, was signed by the Giants on the March 24, 2004 to provide depth in the secondary. Last season, he saw action in all 16 games with 5 starts and finished with 33 tackles, one interception and three passes defensed. Cousin, a cornerback, was a versatile reserve with each of his five starts coming at free safety.

Prior to joining the Giants, Cousin had played for the Panthers, Dolphins, Falcons and Bears.

Bromell was signed by the Giants as a free agent on April 5, 2004. He played in two games for the Giants last season before being place on injured reserve on December 1 with a knee injury. He recorded three tackles for the Giants in 2004. Bromell began the season on the physically unable to perform list with a knee injury before being elevated to the Giants active roster on November 9.

Prior to joining the Giants, Bromell had played for the Raiders, Vikings, and Dolphins.

Chase spent the 2004 season on injured reserve after signing with the Giants as an unrestricted free agent from Washington on March 17, 2004. He participated in training camp before he was placed on IR on August 30 with a knee injury.

Prior to joining the Giants, Chase had played for the Redskins, Saints and Ravens.

Womack was signed by the Giants on January 6, 2004. He spent training camp with the team before being placed on injured reserve on August 3 with a knee injury.

Womack spent two seasons with the Patriots prior to joining the Giants.
