So long to Stokes

The Giants released offensive lineman Barry Stokes, who never played a game for the team because of injury and became expendable after the club drafted Chris Snee and traded for Jason Whittle.

A much-traveled free agent, Stokes signed with the Giants on March 14, 2004. Stokes started the preseason opener versus Kansas City at left guard before developing a back injury that eventually required surgery. Stokes was placed on injured reserve on September 5.

Prior to joining the Giants, Stokes played for the Cleveland Browns, starting at left guard in 2002 and left tackle in 2003. He has also played for, or been in camp with, Detroit, Jacksonville, St. Louis, Atlanta, Miami, Green Bay, Oakland and the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe.

The Giants also waived wide receiver Tony Johnson of Penn State and punter Eddie Johnson of Idaho State. Both players were signed earlier this year and allocated to NFL Europe. However, neither player made an NFL Europe roster.
