Any happy returns?

The Giants are pleased with just about all of their specialists. Incoming kicker Jay Feely is expected to help improve several areas, while punter Jeff Feagles and snapper Ryan Kuehl are as dependable as they come. All Willie Ponder did was lead the league in kickoff returns last season. That leaves just one key spot up for grabs ? punt returner. It?s hard to imagine Mark Jones retaining the duties he performed just adequately last season. The key question is who will step in?

The leading candidate very well could be Curtis Deloatch, who has punt return ability, but so far in his brief career has been asked to focus solely on playing corner. With Deloatch coming off a strong spring, our money?s on him coming out of Albany with the job. If not, Lamont Brightful, who excelled in NFL Europe, or Ponder could be the guy.

Other camp battles to keep your eye on: Veteran Bob Whitfield nipping at the heels of starting left tackle Luke Petitgout; second-round pick Corey Webster, Frank Walker and Curtis Deloatch fighting to be the third corner; and fourth-round pick Brandon Jacobs and Mike Cloud battling to back up Tiki Barber at running back.
