The Giants entertained two free agents on Tuesday, LB Shawn Barber and WR Ricky Proehl. The club seemed interested in both players, and even offered Barber a contract, but with less than $1 million available under the salary cap, it seemed unlikely that either would become Giants.
The Giants are seeking a new weakside linebacker since they cut Jessie Armstead and also want another wideout in case they can't retain free agent Joe Jurevicius. New York needs to save its money to attempt to re-sign safety Shaun Williams. Giants GM Ernie Accorsi is expected to meet with Williams' representative Marvin Demoff at next week's league meetings.
