Allen ready to cement starting job

Will Allen has heard the whispers. He knows the Giants top pick in last April's draft was a cornerback, Corey Webster. He's fully aware he's entering the final season of his contract. He doesn't care. About any of it. Speaking to TGI on Thursday from his New York home 90 minutes from Albany, Allen said he's just champing at the bit to get the season underway.

"I look at it like it's a motivating factor," Allen said. "That's the way the league is. Is it added pressure on me? No, not at all.

"I want to make plays, that's all. I want to control only what I can control. I want to win football games and be a reason this defense is better than it was last year."

Allen believes a key to his success is his health.

"I feel a lot better than I have in a really long time," he said. "You always play better when you're healthier."

He admits there will be eyes on him this summer, as well as plenty with their sights focused on Webster. Again, he's not worried.

"If I perform the way I know I can perform, I'll be just fine."
