Game Notes

LT Luke Petitgout left the game with a rib injury. He was scheduled to undergo further tests on Saturday.

Rookie free agent James Butler had a heck of a game, posting five tackles and two sacks. Butler showed great speed blitzing from the secondary for 17 total yards in losses. Butler played pretty well too when he got a chance, Tom Coughlin said.

Jason Whittle was basically flawless on his longsnaps while filling in for Ryan Kuehl, who was a last-minute scratch due to illness. "I was a little surprised", said Whittle, who guessed that he hadn't snapped in a game since 2001. I could have done better, but I was just glad to be able to fill in.

After the game Coughlin said that Eli Manning was progressing well. I would say he's on schedule.

Reserve RB Derrick Ward showed himself well, averaging 4.6 yards per carry and catching one pass for 26 yards.

Michael Jennings, who's had trouble fielding punts in practice, was given the first crack and didn't make the most of his opportunity. He mishandled his first attempt, but was fortunate to recover. Later, Ataveus Cash fumbled away a punt opportunity. When asked after the game if he thought the club would have to go outside the organization for a punt returner, Coughlin said, "We'll see what happens."

The Jets still lead the all-time preseason series 19-17-1, with the Giants snapping a nine-game losing streak and beating Gang Green in the preseason for the first time since 1996.
