Although the substance was banned, the NFL did not have testing procedures in place.
That is going to change starting July 1.
"Athletes are always looking for something that will give them an edge" Barnes told the New York Daily News.
Barnes says he believes 75 percent of the players on the Giants' active roster used the substance illegal by the league, and about half continued use after the ban.
