Giants grant Armstead second look

TGI has learned that among the players New York worked out yesterday before signing veteran LB Roman Phifer was none other than perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Jessie Armstead.

A five-time Pro Bowl selection during a nine-year career with Big Blue, Armstead has been out of football all season after spending the entire 2004 campaign on Carolina's Injured Reserve list.

Other notable names given a look by Giants brass on Monday included two linebackers – former Raider Jay Foreman and former Saint Derrick Rodgers – and five safeties: former Cowboys Rich Coady and Tony Dixon, Arturo Freeman (Patriots), Shaunard Harts (Chiefs) and Siddeeq Shabazz (Saints).
