Accorsi workin' OT

Ernie Accorsi said he "did the best he could" in trying to land head-coaching positions for not only current defensive coordinator Tim Lewis, but former Giants head man Jim Fassel as well.

The Rams, Chiefs and Packers all contacted Accorsi interested in his thoughts on Fassel, who's also still in the mix for the vacant Raiders post.

"When it all settles down, he's the proven guy, his credentials are there," Accorsi told TGI. "I worked hard to try to help him. I'd be disappointed if he didn't get one."

"Ernie's been really good throughout this whole process," Fassel told TGI. "He's been a great help."

As for Lewis, Accorsi admitted no mixed emotions about campaigning for what would eventually be a loss for the organization.

"You'd hate to lose him, but you care more about the person and want to help him," he said.

Accorsi has no doubt that Lewis' time will come.

"I've been around two other great coordinators that became great coaches - Marty Schottenheimer and John Fox - and Tim's definitely in their class," Accorsi said. "He's going to be a head coach, no doubt."

Those close to Lewis state that he's not disappointed in the least, understands the business aspect of the league, and is excited about returning to coach the Giants defense.
