Giants Announce Preseason Opponents

The NFL today released the preseason opponents for all 32 teams, as well as the dates and times for the games to be aired on national television. The Giants will host the Chiefs on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m., in a game to be televised by the FOX network.

The Giants will open their preseason schedule in Week 1 (Aug. 10-14) at Baltimore. They will host the Chiefs in Week 2, then be the visitors in their annual game against the Jets in Week 3 (Aug. 24-28). The Giants will conclude their preseason schedule in Week 4 (Aug. 31-Sept. 2) with a home game against New England.

Specific dates and times for the remaining three preseason games will be announced in the near future. The full regular season schedule will be revealed early next month. The Giants will open their regular season on Sunday night, Sept. 10 in a nationally-televised game against the Indianapolis Colts. The game will feature the first-ever on-field meeting of Peyton and Eli Manning and it will be the first game in NFL history in which brothers will be the starting quarterbacks.

The Giants and Ravens will resume their preseason series after a one-year hiatus. The teams played every year in the preseason from 1996-2004. The Giants were 3-6 in those games, including a 27-17 loss in their most recent meeting, on Aug. 28, 2004.

Kansas City will play the Giants in New Jersey for the third consecutive year. In 2004, they visited Giants Stadium for the preseason opener and Tom Coughlin's debut as the Giants head coach. The Giants won, 34-24. The teams played a regular season game last Dec. 17. Tiki Barber rushed for a franchise-record 220 yards in a 27-17 Giants victory.

The Giants and Jets have played each preseason since 1969. The Jets lead the series, 19-17-1, though the Giants won last year's meeting, 15-14.

For the second year in a row, the Giants' final preseason game will be against the Patriots. Last year, the Giants routed the then-defending Super Bowl champions, 27-3. This will be the fifth time in six years the Giants will face New England in the preseason.

The Giants will not face any of their preseason opponents in the regular season.
