Big Blue Adds Corner Speed

The Giants used their final pick in the 2006 Draft on an extremely fast cornerback with questionable hands. While Maryland's Gerrick McPhearson ran one of the nation's fastest 40 times (4.21, as clocked at his campus workout), the 5-10, 196-pounder finished his four-year career with only one interception.

Strengths:
One of the fastest players in the draft...An outstanding athlete with tremendous leaping ability...Has a solid frame and is extremely strong for his size...Tough and physical...Has a burst and can recover from mistakes...A solid tackler who will help versus the run...Still has a lot of upside and most of his flaws can be worked on.

Weaknesses:
Does not have the ideal height you look for...Doesn't always play up to his talent...Does not have great instincts...Struggles with big wideouts...Overall technique is lacking...Has some durability concerns with his shoulders...Does not pick off many passes...Might be more of a workout warrior than football player.

Notes:
Father played defensive back with the New England Patriots and brother, Derrick, is a freshman football player at the University of Illinois...Named All-ACC in indoor track for his third-place finish at the 2005 ACC Indoor Championships.
