What about Garrett?

The Giants are feeling optimistic about getting Jason Garrett back as QB Kerry Collins backup.

The other former Giant who's been blowing in the wind all off-season is QB Jason Garrett.

The hold-up is that since the Giants had renegotiated Garrett's pact, they're not afforded the new veteran cap savings. Garrett's salary would be $750,000, but would only cost the Giants $450,000 under the cap. Since there was a previous reworking of his deal, that savings is no longer applicable.

The Giants still clearly want to bring Garrett back. "I'm optimistic we'll get it done," Fassel said. "I'd like him back."

Garrett said he wants to continue playing. He turned down Fox SportsNet's offer to become a commentator and has already been contacted by a couple clubs.
