Coughlin Unplugged

Tom Coughlin sat down with a small group of writers that cover the Giants on a daily basis and discussed a wide variety of topics Monday morning. Here are some of the highlights:

Coughlin mentioned that Eli Manning is considerably more accurate than he was during last year's camp and last season.

"He's been sharp," he said. "He has done a good job finding a second or third option."…

Coughlin disputed the notion that he's not player-friendly and said sometimes the onus is on the player to come to him if there's any kind of problem.

"People are who they are," Coughlin said. "I'm just as approachable as anyone else. I'm there for them."…

Coughlin said he's seen a change in the mindset of players regarding injuries. "I think that message has been out there," he said of practicing if at all possible. "I've seen a change. I want to encourage the aspect of participation instead of the other way around."…

Coughlin has been very pleased with the play of Tim Carter.

"I've been very impressed," he said. "He started off with some tendonitis and he did not give in to that. He stayed out there."…

Coughlin said he's been very pleased with LaVar Arrington.

"Our expectations are for him to have an outstanding year," he said…

Coughlin explained why he canceled Tuesday morning's practice.

"I just think we're ready to go," he said. "We're at the end of camp. We're ready for it."…

Coughlin said the most "disappointing phase" of training camp has been the injury to Sinorice Moss.

"This is a real injury that's prevailed a lot longer than anyone thought," he said…

Coughlin said he's optimistic heading into the season.

"I feel really strongly about this team and these players," he said.
