Giants Fill Out Practice Squad

The Giants filled out their eight-man practice squad with one veteran, defensive end Adrian Awasom, who played in five games last season, and one 2006 draft choice, seventh-round selection Gerrick McPhearson, a cornerback from Maryland.

The other practice squad players are linebacker Tyson Smith, defensive tackle Marcus Green, tight end Darcy Johnson (who caught a touchdown pass in last week's preseason victory over New England), wide receiver Anthony Mix, running back James Sims and tight end Charles Davis of Purdue, the only player to come from another team.

Davis, 6-6, 250, was a fifth-round draft choice this year by the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 167th overall selection. He played in 49 games with 33 starts at Purdue and caught 78 passes for 865 yards and four touchdowns. As a senior last year he had 26 receptions for 311 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown at Minnesota.

Also on the practice squad is safety Claudius Osei. A native of Hamburg, Germany that played college football at Florida State, Osei will spend the season on the practice squad as part of the NFL's International Practice Squad Program. Under the three-year old program, each AFC North and NFC East team has been assigned an international player to spend the season on their practice squad.
