Emmons Out Three Weeks

Tests on starting WLB Carlos Emmons showed a partial tear in his pectoral muscle and will sideline the veteran for three weeks, according to coach Tom Coughlin.

With Emmons out of action, Coughlin has yet to name his replacement. It will be either veteran and former starter Brandon Short or impressive rookie Gerris Wilkinson.

Short, inactive for the first three games after offseason knee surgery, said he's ready to go. "I have a burning inside me to get out there and help," he said.

"Brandon Short is doing the best that he can," Coughlin said. "I think he is on a program just like you have been watching, he practices a day and then he has a day when he doesn't work. He is feeling better, he feels stronger about it, he is excited about a chance."

As for Wilkinson, he played very well in place of Emmons last Sunday in Seattle, posting four tackles in only 11 snaps.

"I'm excited for this opportunity," Wilkinson said.
