Pierce was the first alternate behind Brian Urlacher, who pulled out of the game after yesterday's disappointing Super Bowl defeat, and Seattle's Lofa Tatupu, who will now start the contest at middle linebacker.
Pierce finished a career-best campaign with 159 tackles, a sack and an interception in 2006.
Barber, who will be making his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance, will be playing in his final NFL game. He'll once again be a teammate of his brother, Bucs cornerback Ronde.
Jeremy Shockey was also scheduled to participate but pulled out due to various injuries. Shockey, named for the fourth time, also missed last year's contest due to injury.
