Coach Fassel's comments

I felt like the way we were playing, I was willing to take the risk and really put some momentum into my team. At that point in time, when I decided to go for it, I asked Sean what are you going to call and I got the right answer. That was a play that we have worked on all week... Basically we didn't get to the wide guy, I thought we were going to further out to the side. It was designed to stretch and go back up the side. One of the things that effected the play is that we lost Dinkins.

Opening statement: Obviously we won the football game. We didn't come out and play like I think we can in the beginning but like I said to them, 'this is a good football team'.  That team right there is probably the best team in the National Football League that is 0-3. They have had some tough breaks, that is a good football team, they've got some guys that can do some things. The bottom line is that we came out and showed some fight. This team has fight in it, it's a little hoarse but they have fight, we didn't quit. We were always clean but we needed enough things in the second half that I thought we could do. We moved the football and obviously I am very proud of Matt Bryant, he's really come through for us, big. I don't know if anybody's going to throw against Will Pete, that's two in a row for him and the guys playing on a bum foot so, overall there are some things to go back to work and improve on but we're 2-1 and we've got some fight in us.

 D Line
I think they did an outstanding job, they played well, stopping the run was critical and getting some pressure too. We hit Dilfer a number of times and they came up big when we had to.

Ron Dayne
I told him to just run, run hard, run quick, run behind your pads, if you don't hit the hole right, that's fine just push the pile, you'll get enough. I thought he ran hard today.

Why did you go for it at the end of the first half?
I felt like the way we were playing, I was willing to take the risk and really put some momentum into my team. At that point in time, when I decided to go for it, I asked Sean what are you going to call and I got the right answer. That was a play that we have worked on all week. I thought it was going to be a really good play, I thought we were going to score on them. If I didn't have confidence in the play I wouldn't have gone for it, I needed to show my team that we need to be aggressive about these things.

Why didn't it work?
Basically we didn't get to the wide guy, I thought we were going to further out to the side. It was designed to stretch and go back up the side. One of the things that effected the play is that we lost Dinkins. Dinkins was up, Rivers was down, he was the emergency tight end, we were in a goal line situation, Sean didn't know he was out of the game because he only reports to the defense and that type of stuff but it still should have worked. I didn't get a clean look at the whole thing.

On 3rd and 1 you are 1-5, is it the line, running backs, plays?
That is going to change, trust me. If we have to spend a whole period everyday working on that, it is going to change. I guarantee you.

After tonight will the players look at Matt Bryant differently?
They already look at him different from a week ago. I mentioned to him and Will Peterson that I wanted them to say a few words, he's a man of few words, he took it literally.

Kenny Holmes?
Kenny has picked his game up and I am proud of him. Sometimes you need to challenge a player, do some things, they'll go one of two ways, they either step it up and play like he's playing now or they go into a shell. I am proud of him. He's done everything we've asked from the off season till now and I am happy for him.

Overall defense?
I thought our overall defense played well. We were losing field position, I was not happy with two of our units. The one time on the punt we gave up forty yards with the penalty and stuff. Wind was a factor on the field. I think Mike did the right thing because in this stadium the wind will always continue, so he took the wind in the third quarter and I'm glad he did. I was planning it accordingly, I was talking about using timeouts to make them punt in the wind, although they were punting outstanding today into the wind, he made me nervous because I was talking to him before the game and he said 'I love kicking in this stadium' and I said 'oh boy'. Most guys get nervous, but he kicked real well. We were losing yardage on that, one of the most important factors was that in the third quarter when we were into the wind, we had that opening drive that took about seven minutes off the clock, then we went three and out, punted the ball and then got it back, we just about took the whole quarter away from them with the wind and that was important.
