Giants unhappy with stadium turf

When Giants Stadium switched from AstroTurf to grass three years ago, players and fans were delighted. But the grass just might be greener on the other side. The field takes beating because it hosts the home games of both the Giants and Jets, alng with college football, soccer, and even some concerts.

The Giants have expressed concern about the conditions of the stadium turf, prompting coach Jim Fassel to discuss matters with Giants executive John Mara.

Giants players, notably QB Kerry Collins and K Matt Bryant were not giving the field their endorsement on Monday.

Fassel was quoted by the Daily News as saying "I'm a little disappointed in the shape the field was in after three games because I've been an advocate of it. For three games on it, I didn't think it should look like that at this time of year."

Giants Stadium is one of a few football stadiums that uses a field of removable grass modules. According to Erik Stover, the director of stadium operations, the turf was originally installed for a three-year trial.
