John Cannady, a linebacker for the New York Giants from 1947-54, died Saturday. He was 79.

The former Indiana star back played in the Pro Bowl in 1950 and 1952.

After his NFL career, Cannady moved back to South Carolina to open the popular night spot, Big John's Tavern.

The cause of death was not immediately available.
