A must win already? & Giants Notes

DL Coach Denny Marcin isn't worried about his beaten-up defensive line. Two starters - RDT Keith Hamilton (groin) and RDE Kenny Holmes (elbow) - have been slowed by injuries

and reserve DT Matt Mitrione is going to be out for another couple weeks with a separated right shoulder. However, Marcin said, "We'll be fine. It's only Thursday."

The Giants could utilize LDT Cornelius Griffin at end if need be and backup Dwight Johnson could also play both inside and out. Another option should the DL become shorthanded Sunday is to play a three-man line and insert an extra linebacker (Kevin Lewis) on defense.

The Giants practiced indoors on Thursday. Jim Fassel wanted his club to get used to playing on turf, since Texas Stadium has a new artificial surface this season. As a result, the Giants' equipment team is bringing four different pairs of shoes for each player, as opposed to the usual two.

Kerry Collins stopped just short of calling Sunday's NFC East battle with the 2-2 Cowboys a must win.

"You hate to say it's a must-win when it's only the fifth game of the season," he said. "But this is the type of game we need to win to get where we want to go."
