Eli Manning only soft-tossed on the sideline during Wednesday's practice, as Jared Lorenzen took the bulk of the reps. Lorenzen, who ran the first team, said it was the most reps he's ever received. The best educated guess regarding Manning's availability for Sunday is that it's 50-50.
At running back, Derrick Ward took the first-team snaps, while injured Brandon Jacobs vowed to be back sooner than expected.
"I don't know when I'll be back," he said. "But I know it'll be sooner than five weeks."
Finally, Osi Umenyiora only did some light jogging and bicycle work. He's not expected to play Sunday. Umenyiora said he had no problem getting over his misfortune after he was injured in Dallas for the second consecutive season.
"When it first happened I sat in my locker and cried for a little bit because I thought it was pretty bad," he said. "But then I saw what happened to the guy in Buffalo (Kevin Everett) and said, ‘Thank God.'"
