Injury Report - Stray Sits

Who practiced and who was sidelined on Wednesday as the Giants returned to work in preparation for Sunday's matchup with the Jets? Read on…

Michael Strahan missed practice on Wednesday due to a sore knee, but Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he expects the 15-year veteran to work on Thursday. Safety Gibril Wilson also missed practice because of a hip injury. Guard Chris Snee has a sore knee and was limited in practice.

Plaxico Burress continues to miss practice because of his sprained right ankle. "That is the circumstance we have been dealt," Coughlin said.

"I can't say I'm going to feel better at a certain time," said Burress, whose condition is being managed by the team so he can play in the games with little practice. "All I can do is wake up day-to-day, see how it feels, and gauge my progress off of that. Treatment and rehab is really all I can do. When I feel better, all you guys (reporters) will know and everybody will know."

Wide receiver Steve Smith will miss his third straight game with a fractured scapula.

Brandon Jacobs, as expected, will return to the lineup Sunday against the Jets.

Receiver swap

The Giants made a roster move at wide receiver and on special teams, adding Domenik Hixon and waiving Anthony Mix.

Hixon was waived Tuesday by the Denver Broncos, for whom he played the first four games. He is the only player to return a kickoff and punt for the Broncos this season. Hixon averaged 22.8 yards on 12 kickoff returns, with a long of 35, and averaged 4.6 yards on seven punt returns, with a long of 14. He also had two special teams tackles and did not catch a pass.

Denver selected Hixon on the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft (the 130th pick overall). He spent his rookie season on the Broncos' reserve/non-football injury list with a left foot injury suffered while preparing for the NFL Draft. Hixon started 44 games at the University of Akron – 20 at free safety his first two seasons and 24 at wide receiver his last two. He finished his career with 141 receptions (second in school history) for 2,092 yards (third) and set school records as a senior with 75 catches for 1,210 yards.

Hixon was born in Germany – he still speaks German – before moving to Columbus, Ohio, where he was a two-way standout at Whitehall-Yearling High School. He was born on Oct. 8, 1984.

Mix spent the entire 2006 season on the Giants' practice squad. He made the team in training camp this year and played in each of the first four games. Mix had three catches, all in the loss to Green Bay on Sept. 16.
