Thursday notes

Michael Strahan saves his best games for the Eagles, and this Monday should be no different.

* The Giants signed tight end John Waerig to the practice squad. Waerig caught one pass for the Detroit Lions last season. A 6-2, 264-pounder from the University of Maryland, Waerig had short stints with Jacksonville and Tampa Bay in 2000, though he never played in a game. The Lions signed him in February, 2001 and allocated him to Amsterdam of the NFL Europe League. Waerig spent much of last season on Detroit's practice squad. He played in one game, at Chicago on Dec. 12. * Monday's game should be a defensive battle. Philadelphia is second in the NFL in total defense (254.5 yards a game) and the Giants are third (282.0). * The Giants have won four of their last five games played in Philadelphia and are 32-33-1 overall in games played in the City of Brotherly Love. * Michael Strahan has 7.5 sacks in his last three games against the Eagles. * Philadelphia kicker David Akers has succeeded on his last 18 field-goal attempts.
