Collins in command

Fassel on QB Kerry Collins: "I want to push him to the forefront of command and leadership. When it is all said and done, he's got to go out there and make those guys perform for him."

Head Coach Jim Fassel believes the quarterback has to be in command of their offense. When he took the play calling duties back from Sean Payton, he gave a little back to QB Kerry Collins.

In his press conference, Fassel said "... sometimes I think we [coaches] have taken away and eroded that generalship and command that the quarterback has to have. And I changed that"

Fassel added that last week in practice, and in warm-ups the quarterbacks called the plays. He consulted with Collins on where and when he wants to take a shot.

"I want to push him to the forefront of command and leadership." Fassel said. " When it is all said and done, he's got to go out there and make those guys perform for him."

When asked if it was the first time Kerry had input in play calling, Fassel responded "No, I don't think that is the case. I have tried to accelerate it a little bit, but I have done other things to try to give him command. I want him to be in command. The quarterback has to be."
