Sure he took a verbal beating from offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride this morning for making an incorrect read. But other than that's he been perhaps the best offensive player on the field.
"Hixon had an impressive spring," Tom Coughlin said. "He did a good job. I told him that, I told him he was one guy who had an impressive spring that we really counted on."
Needless to say, Hixon was very pleased to hear Coughlin's assessment of his solid offseason play, but he also wasn't putting too much stock into his newfound starting status.
"It's something that you work toward," he said. "But you want to stay there too. You have to be consistent every day."
At 6-2, 182, Hixon enjoys a height advantage over most of New York's smaller reserve receivers. But that's not the only thing that sets him apart and makes him a very solid bet to make Big Blue's final roster coming out of training camp.
"There's that (his height) and obviously he is very good on special teams," Coughlin said.
Two of Hixon's more impressive catches came during Saturday's workouts. He made a terrific sliding catch between Corey Webster and Michael Johnson and later made a nice grab over Aaron Ross on a fade route.
