But to hear some Giants fans and media tell it, before Moss' huge 46-yard catch in Detroit during the preseason opener, the former second-round pick from 2006 was going to have a tough time even making the Giants' final 53-man roster. Now? He's headed for the big things everyone envisioned when they drafted him 44th overall out of the University of Miami.
"It felt good to go out there and make a play for the team," Moss said. "That was my opportunity to make a play. I'm here to do a job."
In his first two seasons on the job, Moss posted only 26 receptions for 250 yards. A quad injury limited him to only six games as a rookie; last year, Moss didn't even come close to the breakout season many were looking for.
On his signature play as a Giant thus far, Moss streaked down the right sideline and got behind Lions CB Dovonte Edwards for the grab. Detroit safety Greg Blue came in and tried to knock the ball free, but Moss did a great job of holding on.
"Moss made a nice play," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "The ball was underthrown, he came back, went up in the air and got the ball with the defenders all around him. That was good."
Moss knew from the moment QB Anthony Wright called the go route for him that good things were about to unfold.
"I was pretty geeked up in the huddle," he smiled.
He didn't disappoint.
"He's a speed guy, that's why they brought him here," Wright said. "I have confidence in Sinorice."
The composed Moss took his big play in stride.
"When the ball's up in the air, you have to go get it," he said. "That's what I'm supposed to do."
