The third-time's-the-charm hero of the NFC Championship Game is undergoing exploratory surgery Friday morning that will determine the extent of the left knee injury that has sidelined him for the last couple weeks.
According to The Star-Ledger's Mike Garafolo, Tynes' prognosis could range anywhere from being out only another week or so to requiring a David Tyree type surgery, which would shelve the 30-year-old kicker for at least four months and certainly include a trip to the Injured Reserve list.
The Giants currently have Josh Huston on board; Huston lost a close battle with Tynes for the place-kicking job last summer. But should the worst-case scenario be realized with Tynes, it's likely the Giants would take a look at another veteran kicker as well, such as Billy Cundiff or Mike Vanderjagt.
