Coach's Corner

The suspense is over. Following Friday's practice, Giants coach Tom Coughlin made his decision regarding the availability of running back Brandon Jacobs for Sunday night's showdown in Dallas.

Jacobs will not play against the Boys due to his ailing knee. Here's the rest of what Coughlin had to say on Friday.

Q: Have you ruled anybody out?
A:
Jacobs and Jonathan Goff.

Q: Is that at all a cautious approach with Jacobs?
A:
No, he hasn't practiced all week, so we just don't think that he will be ready.

Q: How is Hixon today?
A:
Okay. He seemed to feel pretty good about where he was. He worked half the practice. We'll see. How he gets up tomorrow morning is going to be important.

Q: How confident are you with Ward and Bradshaw stepping in for Jacobs?
A:
They have played many, many times before. Confidence is high.

Q: Are there things that will be missing because Jacobs won't be in there?
A:
Not really. The scheme is the scheme and we have always utilized whichever back was in there in the way that they could be – as if all of them were going to play depending on who happened to be in the game at time. So in the fourth quarter many times when Bradshaw is in there, we are running the same plays that we run when it is the first quarter.

Re: rotation of running backs on Sunday
A:
We will just have to see how the game goes now.

Re: Danny Ware contributing to the running game
A:
He may have an opportunity provided he is dressed.

Q: Fred Robbins?
A:
Freddie is going on the injury list. He practiced – he has practiced all week. But we don't have any pads on him. So we are going to be interested to see how he feels.

Q: Shoulder?
A:
Yes, shoulder.

Q: How are you classifying him?
A:
Questionable.

RE: Giants last game at Texas Stadium
A:
Not really. Any sentiment from us for the last game in Texas Stadium? Well, it is an important game for both teams against a divisional rival, no doubt. So we are excited about playing them. But that is where it is.

Q: Can you use Ward more in a receiving role; does he give you that option? He seems to have the surest hands.
A:
We can and we have. We have used him in that role basically all year long. That is why he's got the numbers that he has.

Q: Is he the best of the backs as far as your receivers?
A:
I don't – I have always felt like Jacobs had good hands. Bradshaw, obviously if he is going to be a kick and punt returner, then we have faith in him as well. S o Derrick has been the guy who has been in those situations. But the other guys – if you are in training camp, they all do everything. As you get into game planning, you then zoom in on certain things. But would we not do things if, in fact, Derrick wasn't in the game? Would we not use a back as a receiver? Yes we would.

Q: How much do you talk or care that there has been a lot of talk out of Dallas the last couple of days about the unrest …..
A:
I don't have any knowledge – I'm told and I look at the information that is presented to me. But for me, right now, that has nothing to do with our team.
