Ward rushed for a career-high 215 yards on 15 carries (14.3 yard average) as the Giants defeated the Carolina Panthers 34-28 in overtime to clinch homefield advantage in the NFC playoffs. Ward joined Pro Football Hall of Famer BOBBY MITCHELL as the only players in NFL history to rush for at least 215 yards on 15 or fewer carries. Ward also became just the third Giant to rush for 215 yards in a game, joining TIKI BARBER and GENE "CHOO CHOO" ROBERTS. The Giants started their game-winning drive in overtime at their own 13-yard line. On the first play of the drive, Ward rushed 51 yards up the middle to the Carolina 36-yard line, the longest run of his career. Later in the drive, Ward added runs of 14 and 17 yards to set up BRANDON JACOBS' touchdown. Ward accounted for 82 of the Giants' 87 yards on the game-winning drive. This season, Ward has a career-high 948 rushing yards and needs 52 yards for his first career 1,000-yard season. Jacobs and Ward would become just the fourth set of running back teammates to rush for 1,000 yards in the same season.
In his fifth season from Ottawa, this is Ward's first career Player of the Week Award. He is the fourth running back in team history to be honored, joining TIKI BARBER, RODNEY HAMPTON and JOE MORRIS. Ward is the first Giant to be named Offensive Player of the Week since 2006 (Barber, Week 17). He is the fifth Giant to win a weekly award this season, joining kicker JOHN CARNEY (Special Teams, Week 3), defensive end MATHIAS KIWANUKA (Defense, Week 8), linebacker CHASE BLACKBURN (Special Teams, Week 10) and cornerback AARON ROSS (Defense, Week 11).
