Toomer caught 78 passes in 2000, so he has the three-highest one-year totals in
Giants history (Earnest Gray also had a 78-catch season, in 1983). Toomer now
has 1,286 receiving yards this year, breaking the mark of 1,209 yards set by
Homer Jones in 1967. Toomer also has the third-highest total with 1,183 yards
* Toomer became the first Giants wide receiver to catch at least 10 passes in
a regular season game since Del Shofner caught 11 against Washington on Oct.
28, 1962. Tight end Jeremy Shockey had 11 catches against the Redskins on
Nov. 17. Ike Hilliard had 10 receptions in the 2000 NFC Championship Game.
* Toomer's 204 receiving yards are the third-highest total in Giants history
and the fourth time in franchise history a receiver had more than 200 yards.
Shofner set the team record with 269 yards against Washington on Oct. 28,
1962. Gene Roberts had 212 yards at Green Bay on Nov. 13, 1949. Roberts had
the Giants' only other 200-yard game, with 201 yards against the Bears on
Oct. 23, 1949. Toomer's previous career high was 193 yards against
Jacksonville on Dec, 23, 2000. Sunday's game was the 16th in his career in
which Toomer has exceeded 100 yards.
* Toomer has 5,252 career receiving yards (second on the Giants all-time
list) and needs 183 yards to pass Frank Gifford and move into the top spot.
* Toomer's three touchdown receptions tied a career high. He also scored
three touchdowns on Dec. 5, 1999 against the Jets. Toomer now has 32 career
touchdown catches. He broke a tie with Bob Schnelker (1954-60) and moved into
seventh place on the team's career list.
* Toomer's 82-yard touchdown reception was the Giants' longest play since
Tiki Barber turned a screen pass into an 87-yard touchdown at Arizona on Dec,
6, 1998. It was the seventh-longest play from scrimmage - and the
sixth-longest pass - in Giants history.
* Toomer increased his career total to 353 receptions and moved past Tiki
Barber and into third place on the Giants all-time list. Barber, who caught
two passes, is fourth with 345 catches.
* Toomer (204 yards) and Jeremy Shockey (seven catches for a career-high 116
yards) became the first pair of Giants receivers with more than 100 receiving
yards in the same game since Toomer (124 yards) and Hilliard (105 yards) did
it on Dec. 23, 2001 against Seattle. It is the first time the Giants have had
one wideout and one tight end accomplish the feat since Nov. 15, 1987, when
wide receiver Lionel Manuel (105) and tight end Mark Bavaro (102) did it in a
victory at Philadelphia. This was the fourth time in the Fassel era the
Giants have had two receivers gain more than 100 yards.
