Game Notes

Quarterback Kerry Collins is 3-2 as a postseason starter. He was 1-1 in 1996, when, as a second-year pro, he led the Carolina Panthers to the NFC Championship Game.

And he was 2-1 for the Giants in 2000. In those five

games, Collins has completed 86-of-156 passes (55.1 percent), for 933 yards,

eight touchdowns and nine interceptions.

* If the Giants win Sunday, they will advance to the Divisional Playoff

round. Their next destination would be determined by the winner of the Green

Bay-Atlanta game to be played Saturday night. If the Packers extend their

unbeaten streak in Lambeau Field, the Giants would head to Philadelphia to

play the top-seeded Eagles. Should the Falcons pull off the upset, the Giants

would travel to Tampa Bay to meet the Buccaneers.

* The Giants were 5-3 as visitors this season.

"We have shown we can go on the road and win," Jim Fassel said. "I don't

think there is anything that can happen in the playoffs that can change that

dramatically."

* The Giants and 49ers have split their six previous playoff games. San

Francisco holds a slight edge in total points, 122-118. The teams have met

just once previously in the Wild Card round, with the Giants winning in 1985,

17-3. The Niners have won three of four postseason games from the Giants in

San Francisco.
