Ike Re-signs; Mitchell Signs

The Giants re-sign their number two receiver and upgrade their special teams by signing the league leader in punt returns.

The Giants kept their number two receiver in blue as Hilliard signed a 5-year deal. The contract terms were five years, $12.5 million with a $2.5 million signing bonus. Although being high on the Dolphins' and Redskins' free-agent wish list, the six-year veteran will stay with the team that drafted him.

Signing Hilliard means that both young wide receivers Ron Dixon and Tim Carter will still not gain a starter status.

The Giants also announced the signing of RB/KR Brian Mitchell to a multi-year deal. Last year, Mitchell moved past Walter Payton into second place on the all-purpose yardage list behind Jerry Rice by gaining 22,001 all-time combined net yards in his career. He has the league records in kickoff return yards (12,897 yards) and punt return yards (4,845 yards).
