What We Learned Against Philadelphia

Jaguars highlights were few and far between on Sunday as they were stomped by the Philadelphia Eagles, 28-3. Let's see how our keys to victory played out (or didn't).

Make Vick a pocket passer. The Jaguars kept Vick from making many plays with his feet but it didn't stop him from beating them with his arm. Vick was mostly accurate as he completed 17 of his 31 throws for 291 yards and three touchdowns. Vick ran four times for 30 yards including a 17-yard touchdown.

Limit big plays. The Jaguars couldn't minimize big plays by the Eagles offense. Both DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin each were able to get open and caught long touchdown passes of 61 and 45 yards respectively. The pair combined for nine catches for 236 yards and three touchdowns.

Run the ball, control the clock. The Eagles stacked the box with eight and sometimes nine men to keep Maurice Jones-Drew from running wild. The strategy was very effective.

Garrard must win the QB battle. Garrard was inept for the second consecutive week while Michael Vick was nothing short of sensational. Quarterback rating doesn't always tell the whole story but Sunday it did. Vick's rating was a robust 119.2 while Garrard had to complete his last throw against prevent defense to register a 38.9. The Jaguars have a real problem at the quarterback position.

Be good in the red zone. The Jaguars were 0-1 in the red zone.

Bold predictions:

DeSean Jackson will make at least one big play and score a touchdown. Jackson made several plays during the game and caught five balls for 153 yards and a touchdown.

Maurice Jones-Drew goes over 100. Jones-Drew was on pace for a big game early, but when the game got away from the Jaguars, his carries became limited. He did finish with 88 yards on 22 carries

Good tight end fantasy day. It wasn't a good fantasy day for anyone on the Jaguars. Eagles tight end Brent Celek caught four passes for 42 yards.

There will be five or more combined sacks in this game. The Jaguars and Eagles defensive lines obliged as David Garrard went down six times on his own and Michael Vick was sacked on three separate occasions.

Eagles fly away with a victory. Philadelphia was in control from their second possession when Vick hit DeSean Jackson with a 61-yard touchdown strike. It only went downhill from there as the Eagles went on to a 28-3 victory
