Who Is Keith Null?
What the bio tells us:
Measureables: 6'4", 219 lbs., 25 years old.
Keith Null was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the sixth-round of the 2009 draft. Thrust into action on a terrible Rams team last year, Null started four games for the injured Marc Bulger. In those four appearances, Null completed 73 for 119 (61.3%), for 566 yards, three touchdowns and nine interceptions with a quarterback rating of 49.9.
Most of his poor play occurred during his first-ever game against the Tennessee Titans, when Null completed 28 of 44 pass attempts for 165 yards, with one touchdown and five interceptions. Null improved in his final three starts as he completed 60 percent of his throws with two touchdowns and four picks on a terrible Rams team.
So can this guy ever be more than a developmental prospect? We asked Sirius NFL Radio host Howard Balzer who has covered the Rams amongst many other teams.
Good arm. Showed guts and poise when he had to start the final four games last season. Has good size and smarts. Personally, I thought he was a better prospect than Thaddeus Lewis, who the Rams kept instead of him at the cut to 53. Lewis is now on the practice squad. Null also had a recent tryout in New England.
Nate Latsch who covers the Rams for Scout.com weighed in on Keith Null—
Null got beat out for the Rams No. 3 quarterback spot in training camp by undrafted rookie Thaddeus Lewis out of Duke, who was later released and signed to the practice squad. He looks the part. Threw the ball a ton at his small college. Got some experience last year when other guys got hurt.
Obviously he wasn't the Rams future at quarterback or they wouldn't have drafted Sam Bradford.
The Jaguars believed that Null was a better option for the team than Brett Ratliff, and he could be groomed on the Jags practice squad for a future backup job.
