Jags Make Minor Moves

The Jaguars continue tweaking their roster. In their latest move, they signed fifth-year offensive tackle Guy Whimper and released linebacker Eric Alexander on Tuesday.

Alexander, who was inactive in Dallas, was signed on Sept. 28 and only played in four games, getting four special teams tackles.

The Jaguars signed Whimper because they are thin at tackle after losing Eben Britton for the season with a torn labrum.

Whimper was the second tackle the team has signed in as many weeks. They signed Erik Pears last week, but he was inactive in Dallas.

Whimper played in 30 games for the Giants after being selected on the fourth round of the 2006 draft. He was waived on Sept. 4 in the final cuts.

He spent the entire 2008 season on the injured reserve list with a foot injury and played in six games last year.

In 2007, he played in all 16 regular-season games and all four postseason games, including the Super Bowl.

They also signed Jacksonville native Clarence Denmark to the practice squad and waived wide receiver Lance Long from the practice squad.

Denmark was on the practice squad in the final four games of the 2009 season and the first week of this season.
