Personnel Moves Galore For Jags
That's what he was doing back on Oct. 20 when the Jaguars called him. They had an emergency because their two quarterbacks, David Garrard and Trent Edwards, were injured against Tennessee.
He earned his place in Jaguars lore when, with three days of practice, he made his first start in five years in Kansas City and turned in a solid performance. Showing he could still play NFL-caliber football at age 38, he completed 18 of 34 for 222 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-20 lose.
But with Garrard and Edwards healthy, he was released for the second time this year although he could be brought back if they suffer another quarterback injury.
He was signed the first time because the original backup, Luke McCown, was lost for the season. He was then released when Edwards was signed.
Cutting Bouman was one of six personnel moves the Jaguars made Tuesday. Besides Bouman, they also released tackle Erik Pears, who was signed on Oct. 26, and defensive tackle Landon Cohen, who was claimed off waivers from Detroit on Sept. 5.
Cohen played in two games while Pears was inactive last week.
They replaced them with wide receiver John Matthews, who was called up from the practice squad because the Colts were ready to sign him if the Jaguars didn't add him to the active roster, cornerback Terrence Wheatley, a 2008 second-round pick by New England, and offensive lineman Adam Terry.
Wheatley, who was inactive for six games with the Patriots this year, has played in 11 games with one start.
Terry, a second-round pick by Baltimore in 2005, has played in 50 games with 18 starts. He spent time with the Colts and Chargers.
The Jaguars returned to practice Tuesday after having their bye week off and all the players appeared to be practicing although the team doesn't have to issue an injury report until Wednesday. The team hopes to end its post-bye week blues. The team is 6-2 under coach Jack Del Rio before the bye and 2-5 after the bye.
