Team Skinny

TSX/The Insiders breaks down all the latest transactions that the Jaguars have made in this off-season. Click here to read all about it.

NEEDS/DRAFT PRIORITIES: DE -- This was a painfully obvious void once Tony Brackens was sidelined for good with a knee injury. With Brackens recovering from microfracture surgery and his status uncertain at draft time, the Jaguars may well elect to release him after June 1 to save $5.5 million off their cap, especially after the signing of Hugh Douglas.

LB -- Coach Jack Del Rio is adamant about wanting to get better speed at this position, even after the addition of Mike Peterson.

WR -- Jimmy Smith, now 34, desperately needs an impact player on the other side to get double teams off him. Andre Johnson, from the University of Miami, could be a solution with the No. 8 overall pick.

FRANCHISE PLAYER: Donovan Darius.

TRANSITION PLAYER: None.

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS: QB Kent Graham (journeyman that team will let go elsewhere); RB Stacey Mack (team would love to keep him, but he wants the chance to start elsewhere); TE Pete Mitchell (team talking to free agent Ernie Conwell could mean Mitchell is history); LB Wali Rainer (team's leading tackler in 2002, but not an impact player); DT Larry Smith (underachiever for most of his four years, but improved last season).

RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS: S Ainsley Battles (tendered at $605,000 with no compensation; decent backup who can play either safety spot); LB Danny Clark (tendered at $605,000 with 7th-round pick as compensation; a tad slow for starter and may be a future backup); OG Leander Jordan (tendered at $605,000 with 3rd-round pick as compensation; team sorely needs offensive line depth); LB T.J. Slaughter (tendered at $605,000 with 3rd-round pick as compensation; four-game suspension last year slowed his progress); DE Paul Spicer (tendered at $605,000 with no compensation; occasional starter and probably the most dependable backup on the team); CB Kiwaukee Thomas (tendered at $605,000 with 5th-round pick as compensation; solid in nickel coverage, but not starting material).

EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS FREE AGENTS: P Chris Hanson (tendered at $375,000; team's only Pro Bowl selection); RB Elvis Joseph (tendered at $375,000).
