Mack Is History

Stacey Mack days with the Jaguars are over. The 6-foot-1 235 pound power-back signed a year deal with Houston even thought the Jaguars and Giants offered better deals. Mack wanted out of Jacksonville so he could pursue a starting job elsewhere.

Who will backup Taylor?

The Jaguars could draft a player or they could pursue a veteran in the free agency market.

Denver free agent running back Olandis Gary is expected to visit the Jaguars some time this week.

The 5-foot-11 and 220 pound four-year pro out of Georgia lost ground behind rookie Clinton Portis, Mike Anderson and Rueben Droughns.

Last year as a Bronco, Gary rushed for 137 yards on only 37 carries and one touchdown. He also caught 18 passes out of the backfield for 148 yards. In his previous three years as a reserve running back with Denver, for almost 1,500 yards including 1,159 yards in the 1999 season.

LB packs bags

The Detroit Lions have signed a free-agent linebacker Wali Rainer to a two-year deal.

Rainer, who was originally drafted in 1999 by the Cleveland Browns (4th round), recorded 71 tackles and one sack with the Jaguars last season.
