Sims-Walker Returns to Jacksonville
After being selected by Jacksonville in the third-round of the 2007 draft, Sims-Walker missed his first year while rehabbing a knee injury he suffered in college while at UCF. Soon after, Sims-Walker was a contributor on the Jags receiving corps before his breakout campaign in 2009 where he caught 63 passes for 869 yards and seven touchdowns. While occupying the 'X' (number one) receiver position in Jacksonville in 2010, he managed to replicate his 2009 total of seven touchdowns while drawing double-coverage on a weekly basis.
As a surprise to many, Jaguars general manager Gene Smith decided not to retain Sims-Walker in favor of giving younger guys such as rookie Cecil Shorts and Jarett Dillard an opportunity for more reps. Through six games, Shorts is yet to catch his first pass and Dillard has just five receptions.
With the worst receiving corps in football and the league's worst statistical passing attack, the Jaguars opted to reunite with their number one receiver from a season ago and will do so on the cheap, as St. Louis is paying a portion of his salary.
The worst thing a franchise can do is not to make personnel mistakes, it's when a team can't admit they made a mistake. The Jaguars admitted to a big offseason mistake and are taking actions to rectifying it.
