Jags Trade Up For Blackmon
Blackmon, a two-time Biletnikoff Award Winner is roughly 6-foot-1 and weighs 215 pounds and was thought of by many to be the consensus best wide receiver in the draft. While at Oklahoma State, Blackmon showed an ability to overpower smaller cornerbacks while going up and high-pointing the football as well as anyone in the NCAA.
This was clearly a selection to help last year's 10th -overall pick Blaine Gabbert, who struggled mightily as a rookie. Gabbert had no chance last season as he was throwing to a hodgepodge of receiving "talent," as many could argue that none belonged in the NFL.
The Jaguars tried their best to address their problems on the outside as they acquired Laurent Robinson and Lee Evans via free agency, and now selected the best wide receiver in college football over the last two seasons.
Blackmon will be penciled in right away at the "Y" receiver position to play opposite Laurent Robinson while Mike Thomas will move to his much more natural spot in the slot.
The Jaguars reportedly gave up their fourth-round pick (#101 overall) to move up with Tampa Bay.
