The Jaguars had an up and down team performance in Friday’s 13-12 loss to the Detroit Lions. We are going to look at some of the individual performances from the game to determine who helped themselves and who didn’t prior to Tuesday’s first round of cuts.

J.T. Thomas - The reserve linebacker had an up and down game as he missed a few tackles but forced a fumble and recovered another fumble. The ball seems to find Thomas which is certainly a good thing, and his special teams play should earn him a roster spot.

Jonathan Cyprien - The big hitting safety was all over the field as he had 7 tackles, defended a pass, but made a big mistake as he went inside instead of staying in his lane which led to an 86-yard touchdown by Reggie Bush.

Ryan Davis - Davis was one of the only Jaguars to get a hit on a Detroit quarterback and he also ended up recovering a fumble. Davis looks like a solid fit on the defensive line rotation at the Leo.

Injuries- Paul Posluszny, Sen’Derrick Marks and David Carter all went down with injuries through the course of the game.

Overall: The “mis-fits” are something that can easily be corrected, but getting blown off the ball isn’t. The Lions offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage and that was likely due in part to the injuries to Sen’Derrick Marks and company. Detroit isn’t known as having a particularly great o-line so it really is troubling that the team was manhandled so easily at the point of attack.

The Jaguars played a good “bend but don’t break” style of defense and maybe that’s what they’re going to have to do to survive this season. Although the scheme looks great, we have to remember that the front office was literally starting from scratch due to former GM Gene Smith’s ineptitude and it’s going to take a while to build a dominant defense.
