Jaguars Free Agency Targets

The Jaguars have several holes on their roster that need to be filled, not only in the draft but also in free agency. We're going to look at some of the best values in free agency that the team may want to court in the offseason.

Everyone knows that the best way to build a team and a strong roster is through the draft. It’s cheap and you’re guaranteed a certain amount of selections. Since the Jaguars are a little over a year-and-a-half into a complete gutting, they will need some free agents to make them respectable while continuing their rebuild.

Here are some potential Jaguars free agent targets:

Randall Cobb, WR, Packers

Although the team has a lot of draft picks invested in their young wide receiving corps, it’s a reality that not all of them will work out. On top of that Blake Bortles is going to need a reliable target that has already went through the struggles of being a young player. Cobb is fast, has great hands and can line up anywhere. He comes from a winning culture in Green Bay and he can be an immediate leader on the youngest offense in the NFL.

Jermaine Gresham, TE, Bengals

With Cincinnati drafting Tyler Eifert last season, it’s highly unlikely that they’ll tender former first-round pick Jermaine Gresham an offer. Blake Bortles needs a playmaking tight end and Gresham is a “true tight end,” as he can not only catch the football but he’s an excellent in-line blocker. With Marcedes Lewis entering free agency, Gresham would represent a much younger upgrade for the offense.

Louis Delmas, S, Dolphins

The Jaguars desperately need a safety to pair with Jonathan Cyprien. They may address the position in the draft, but if they’re going to expect to compete defensively next season they must upgrade at safety. Louis Delmas is rangy and he’s a solid tackler. He makes some big plays and he’s been able to stay healthy this season in Miami. Delmas would help make the Jaguars secondary more respectable.

Nick Fairley, DT, Lions

Whichever team that signs Nick Fairley will be taking a bit of a gamble. Fairley has been labeled as lazy throughout his Lions career, but there’s no denying his potential as a major disruptor. If anyone can get a player motivated, it’s Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley and with the combination of Nick Fairley’s work ethic and injuries, the Jaguars should be able to sign him at somewhat of a discount, at least a discount over his Lions’ teammate Ndamukong Suh. Nick Fairley could be the impact player that the Jaguars need on their defensive line (combined with their first-round pick).

Sean Weatherspoon, MLB, Falcons

Sean Weatherspoon has battled injuries through much of his career which will keep his free agency value down. Weatherspoon has an attitude and plays football with bad intentions and when healthy has sideline to sideline ability. The Jaguars need another athlete on their defense and Weatherspoon is a natural leader. He’d step right in and if he can stay healthy he’ll be an immediate upgrade.
