Sunday, November 30th, 1:00 p.m.
Everbank Field, Jacksonville, FL
Kickoff temperature: 71 degrees, 0 percent chance of precipitation
Line: Giants by 3
The Jaguars seem to be reeling after their 3-point output against the Colts last Sunday. They need to find a way to get some kind of rhythm out of their offense as Blake Bortles seems to be regressing. New York enters the game as losers of six straight and they’ve lost six games by double-digits this season. Something has to give.
Stats: Jaguars offense- 31st Overall (24th passing, 22nd rushing); 32nd scoring- 14.6 ppg.
Jaguars defense- 30th overall (26th passing, 25th rushing); 32nd scoring- 27.7 ppg.
Giants offense- 14th overall (11th passing, 22nd rushing); 21st scoring- 21.2 ppg.
Giants defense- 31st overall (24th passing, 31st rushing); 27th scoring- 26.7 ppg.
Keys To A Jaguars Victory
Win the turnover battle. The Jaguars did a great job of forcing turnovers last week but the offense couldn’t do anything with them. Giants quarterback Eli Manning will throw some 50/50 balls and the Jaguars need to catch them on defense.
Run the ball. There’s only one team in the league that’s worse at stopping the run than the Giants are. The Jaguars need to run the spread with Blake Bortles and Denard Robinson and make that the primary source of offense.
Double Beckham. Odell Beckham seems to be as talented as any receiver in the game already. Don’t get beat by him.
Throw more on first down. It’s likely that the Giants will load up the line of scrimmage and force the Jaguars to throw the football. If that’s what they’re offering, take it. The easiest down to throw on is first down and the Jaguars need to attempt more passes on first.
Start quickly. The Giants have lost six straight games including a heart-breaker at home last week to Dallas when they had a big lead. If they get down to a team like the Jaguars they can really lose confidence and the Jags might be able to steal a victory.
What We’ll Be Saying On Monday
Denard hit the century mark. Denard Robinson is going to have a bounce-back game and he will hit triple digits in rushing.
Beckham scored. Odell Beckham is a Top 5 talent at wide receiver and with the Jaguars secondary having plenty of injuries and issues, it’s likely that Beckham will find paydirt.
Marcedes Lewis will be the leading receiver. Big Marc is coming off his injury and he has a very favorable matchup this week. Look for Lewis to be Blake Bortles best friend.
Blake Bortles will play better. He only has one way to go, right? Blake has struggled mightily over the past few weeks and he seems to have lost a lot of confidence. This is a favorable matchup that can spike his confidence back up.
They hurt their draft position. That’s a negative way of saying that the Jaguars are going to find a way to pull the upset. Everything seems to tilt toward the Giants in this game, but if the Jaguars can find a way to put pressure on early they can steal this game. It’s time that the improvement that Gus Bradley talks about actually show up on the football field.
