Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has a lot of improving to do.
After struggling with mechanics and decision making during his rookie campaign, Bortles dedicated himself to getting better in the offseason.
“Yeah it’s hard when you’re trying to change stuff," Bortles explained. "It’s something I’ve been doing since I was twelve years old. It’s definitely been developing a bad habit. It’s something you’ve got to think about so right now I am kind of in the stage of doing as much as possible until I don’t have to think about it anymore.”
The early results look pretty good as Bortles has thrown fewer wobbly passes.
“Yeah I am good with it. It seems like you guys like it. That’s what I did it for. I’ve got to continue to work on it, continue to improve it but it’s definitely night and day from this time last year,” the now second-year signal caller said proudly.
After one of the OTA's, Bortles mentioned some of the new contracts being awarded, namely Cam Newton's deal that's worth over $100 million.
“That’s the goal,” Bortles said Tuesday, via Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union.
“$100 million is always exciting,” Bortles added. “Those guys all earn it. They’re great quarterbacks and they get paid what they deserve.”
Bortles was roasted on social media for the mere mention of the contract.
Those people that are taking issue with it need to lighten up.
Bortles has high aspirations and that's exactly what you should want out of your franchise quarterback. In no part of his statement did he say that he was currently worth that sort of money. At least not yet.
Everyone, Blake Bortles included knows that he needs to get better before he's even mentioned with the middle of the road quarterbacks, much less the nine-figure contract guys.
Bortles is putting in the work to get better and if he reaches that level where the Jaguars need to consider that sort of contract, everyone in the organization, Blake Bortles and the entire fan base will be thankful.
